Nuclear Weapons Abolition Gathering

Back from the Brink seeks to raise awareness in western Massachusetts about the threat of nuclear weapons, and build public support for Massachusetts Senate Bill 1487 (aligned with the federal House Resolution 77) which calls on the United States government to implement safeguards to reduce the danger of nuclear war, by:

• Entering into negotiationswith the other eight nuclear-armed countries for a verifiable,    enforceable agreement to eliminate their nuclear arsenals;
• RemovingU.S. nuclear weapons from hair-trigger alert;
• Endingthe President’s sole, unchecked authority to launch nuclear weapons;
• Renouncingthe option of using nuclear weapons first; and
• Cancelingplans and funding to replace the entire U.S. nuclear arsenal with enhanced nuclear weapons.
